She was initially inspired by shadows reflected on grass. A few months later she devised a process that didn't render the chosen object on canvas as a flat image. This way, the selected subject is transformed into an image. This happens especially when using living items or those that will perish for example, like fruits or even humans. Alexa's style of painting is one of ephemeral, and only photographs of her work survive. As the photographic and painting techniques are coordinated so closely and result in the trompe-l'oeil effect in which the illusion of three dimensions appears only at specific points, such as the area around the eyes or the hair. Meade often incorporates her painted figures into the 3-dimensional world that surrounds them. They interact within the world she has created for herself. The boundaries between performance, installation, photography and painting are thus dissolved.
